The National Unity Party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Constantin Codreanu said he voted for a Romanian and European city. He called on the citizens of Chisinau municipality to go to the polls as the recovery in Chisinau will start only if they bring Romania and Europe to Chisinau.
In a posting on a social networking site, the candidate said he didn’t announce where he will vote because what the politicians do and say when they cast their ballots is sheer hypocrisy. It is very important that the people go and vote and diminish the possible frauds and the frauds planned by those who are in power by their presence.
The candidate thanked the people from the diaspora who came to Chisinau to vote. He expressed his confidence that the voters can change things and politics in Moldova if they are united and will build a future at home. “If we indeed want a European future at home and really want to move on, today we have the chance to do this. Or we will allow the dishonest and corrupt politicians to juggle with our votes and with our destinies, with the future of Chisinau and the future of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Constantin Codreanu.
Eleven candidates are contending for the mayoralty of Chisinau. For the elections to be valid, the voter turnout should be of at least one fourth of the voters. The candidate who gains more than half of the votes wins the elections. If no one gathers the necessary number of votes, runoffs are held in two weeks for the two candidates who obtained most of the votes.
