The Socialist MPs requested the Constitutional Court to interpret articles of the Constitution referring to the dissolution of Parliament when a Government cannot be invested. The announcement was made by Socialist lawmaker Vasile Bolea in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

“The Constitution contains a number of unclear provisions and we want the Court to pronounce on them. The fundamental law does not allow dissolving the legislature if it is less than six months left until the presidential elections. On the other hand, the Constitution provides that Parliament has three months to invest the Government or the head of state is obliged to dissolve the legislative body and to announce early parliamentary elections,” said the MP.

Vasile Bolea added that the Court is to determine which of the enumerated constitutional provisions should be given priority. “We consider that the need to vote in the Government is more important. In the period that remained until the expiration of the President’s tenure, the head of state can dissolve Parliament and call early elections,” he stated.

Vasile Bolea said the PSRM will accept Speaker Andrian Candu’s invitation to meet next Tuesday. “We will meet to see what we should do. The Socialists insist on early elections. Most of the Moldovan people want this. The early elections are inevitable and will most probably take place next April or May,” he stated.

Head of Parliament Andrian Candu this week issued an invitation to the leaders of all the parliamentary parties to meet for a discussion on November 24. “Next Tuesday, I will make effort to convene all the parliamentary groups. I call on the parties, regardless of their color, to come. We must see what we can do further. These will be only consultations to consider how we can overcome the current crisis and to regulate the Parliament’s activity,” he stated.
