The Constitutional Court rejected as inadmissible an appeal by the Communist-Socialist Bloc against Parliament’s decision to introduce a formal 60-day state of emergency on January 20, IPN reports.
In their complaint, MPs Vlad Batrîncea, Vasile Bolea, Grigore Novac and Constantin Starîș noted that the declared goal of introducing such a state of emergency was to avoid disruptions of gas supplies.
In fact, claim the plaintiffs, the decision was politically motivated, aiming to limit the right of expression and prevent the organization of protest rallies.
The Court held that that the complaint didn’t meet admissibility criteria.
The Bloc later accused the Court of “double standards”, recalling that it annulled a state of emergency imposed in 2021 by the Socialist Party.
