The Constitutional Court on March 14 validated the results of the national consultative referendum held simultaneously with the February 24 parliamentary elections, IPN reports.

In its report to the Court, the Central Election Commission says 39.78% of the voters or over 1/3 of those put on the voter rolls answered the question “Do you want the number of members of Parliament to be reduced from 101 to 61?”. As many as 744,529 electors voted “For”, while 266,188 electors voted “Against”.

Also 39.74% or over 1/3 of those put on the voter rolls answered the question “Do you want the people do be able to recall (dismiss) the MPs who do not appropriately fulfil their duties?”. As many as 808,266 electors voted “For”, while 202,497 electors voted “Against”.

The Constitutional Court’s judgement is definitive and cannot be challenged. It takes effect when it is adopted and is published in the Official Gazette.
