The process to vote for the 16 applicants for the National Journalistic Ethics and Professional Deontology Award 2018 on the platform www.mediaforum.md was started. The candidates were proposed by a group of experts and the Press Council. The public can assess the contending media outlets until November 15. The winner will be decided as a result of a contest that will involve consumers of media products, experts and members of the Press Council and will be held in December, IPN reports.
According to the Press Council, the competing media outlets are: the channels BAS TV (Basarabeasca), TVR Moldova and TV8, IPN News Agency, the newspapers Cuvântul (Rezina), Expresul (Ungheni), Observatorul de Nord (Soroca) and SP (Bălţi), the journal Natura, the news portals Agora.md, Diez.md, Mold-street.md, Newsmaker.md, and Nokta.md (Comrat), the radio station Radio Chisinau and the investigations portal Rise.md.
According to the regulations of the contest, the visitors of the platform can give points to the favorite candidates, but not more than 10 points a week from a computer. Later, the professional behavior of the applicants will be evaluated by the group of experts and the Press Council based on the Journlaist’s Deontologicla Code of the Republic of Moldova and the Regulations of the contest. At the last stage, the points given to the candidates by the public and by the experts and the Press Council members will be added up.
As the organizer, the Press Council can decide not to give the Award to any of the candidates if it considers the contending media outlets do not deserve this.
The National Journalistic Ethics and Professional Deontology Award was instituted by the Press Council in 2015 to promote high-quality journalism and good journalistic practices. The previous years the winners were the Radio Free Europe’s Moldovan Service (2015), the portal Anticoruptie.md (2016) and the investigations weekly Ziarul de Gardă (2017). Under the regulations, the winners cannot take part in the contest during five years of the year they obtained the Award.
