Contraband goods of over half a million lei seized in southern Moldova

Officers of the South Local Division of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) stopped two cars loaded with industrial goods at the entrance to Ceadar- Lunga town. The drivers had neither documents of origin for the merchandise to the value of over 600,000 lei nor confirmatory importation documents, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Center. The trucks contained clothes for adults and children and stuff for domestic use. According to the preliminary information, the merchandise was smuggled into the country and was to be sold on the domestic market. Several employees of the Border Guard Service and the Customs Service are suspected of facilitating the smuggling of the merchandise. The CCCEC opened a legal case over this case. The owners of the merchandise are investigated for smuggling. They face 3 to 10 years in jail.
