Convict cuts throat in protest at court’s refusal to reduce his term

A prisoner aged 33 who was being escorted to the Chisinau Court of Appeals for a trial tried to kill himself in the courtroom with the help of a razor blade. The man injured his throat and an ear, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Department of Penitentiary Institutions. The convict resorted to such an act in protest at the Chisinau Court of Appeals’ refusal to reduce his jail term. The man was taken to the Emergency Hospital, where he received medical care, and then to Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. His state of health is satisfactory. The prisoner was convicted of drug distribution.
