The Council for Reforming the Liberal Party (PL) expressed its disagreement over the holding of the concert organized by the Embassy of Russia in the Great National Assembly Square on May 9, saying this action is defying, cynical and in the spirit of the traditions of the Soviet past, IPN reports.
“These actions show lack of respect for the Moldovan people and the memory of our ancestors who went through the ordeal of wars, deportations, organized famine, and Soviet collectivization. The organization of this concert in the Great National Assembly Square represents direct profanation as this square is the symbol of the fight for national liberation,” it is said in a communiqué issued by the Liberals.
The Council expresses its special respect for the veterans who survived the Second World War and commemorates the parents and grandparents killed in battle, regardless of the side on which they fought. “These people were nothing but innocent victims in the then global configuration. Consequently, it will be Christian to mark the day of May 9 in European spirit, but not as a jubilee event and an occasion for celebration,” reads the communiqué.
A festive concert staged by the Embassy of Russia starts in the central square of Chisinau at 12 noon. It will involve two Russia singers who promote the Soviet values – Lev Leshchenko and Iosif Kobzon.
