The Constitutional Court ruled that the councilors and mayors who already obtained the seats, but also hold other posts in the subdivisions of the local public administration, will be able to keep these posts. But the seats that will be won after the future elections will be incompatible with the posts held in the LPA. This is how the Court pronounced on the challenge concerning the incompatibilities with the post of local elected official, which was submitted by unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the Court says that following the changes made last July, such large categories of people as the teachers, employees of homes of culture and district hospitals were forced to renounce their jobs if they worked as local or district councilors. The application of the new restrictions during the term in office was declared unconstitutional as the legislative amendments were made after the vote.

The Central Election Commission said that based on the new legal norms, the State Chancellery so far notified it of 56 local and district councilors who hold posts of heads of village librarians, kindergarten or school directors and other positions.
