The Ciocana Court of Chisinau on Thursday evening allowed completing the investigation in the bank fraud case in the absence of Vladimir Plahotniuc, the former leader of the Democratic Party, IPN reports.
The lawyers for Vlad Plahotniuc asked that the hearing should be public as they consider the judges are being subject to pressure. The defense’s request was yet rejected. The lawyers intend to challenge the ordinary court’s decision in the Appeals Court.
On August 22, 2022, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office asked the judge of inquiry of the Ciocana Court of Chisinau to allow completing the investigation in the bank fraud case featuring Vladimir Plahotniuc in the absence of the respondent.
The lawyers for the accused requested the Constitutional Court to lift the exception of unconstitutionality of the provisions that were recently added to the Penal Procedure Court. On September 29, the Court rejected the given request as inadmissible.
