The Cabinet approved the establishment of the energy vulnerability reduction fund in a move to alleviate the impact of the rises in energy price on vulnerable consumers, IPN reports.

Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marcel Spatari in a news conference said the creation of the energy vulnerability reduction fund will enable to provide monthly subsidies through bills for natural gas, electrical energy and heat and of a subsidy for the replacement of old home appliances with energy efficient ones.

To get a monthly subsidy, the residential users of energy will need to list their data in the electronic Energy Vulnerability Register managed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The register will enable to collect the information needed to add consumers to one of the energy vulnerability categories.

The categories of vulnerable consumers will be determined based on a series of parameters that will be approved by the Government, including the income, number of family members, size of costs incurred for energy, type of heating system used, etc.

The bill on the creation of the energy vulnerability reduction fund is to be adopted by Parliament.
