Fifteen kindergartens will be able to open creche groups for children up to two years old, based on a project implemented by the World Bank, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research and the National Office for Regional and Local Development (ONDRL). The rooms for the future groups will be renovated and outfitted with equipment and furniture. The investments amount to over US$2 million and the works will start next year. The services will be available for at least 15 children in each locality, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Education,  the list of beneficiary institutions was approved by the members of the Coordinating Council for monitoring the construction, rehabilitation and modernization of the infrastructure of educational institutions.

To take part in the competition, the kindergartens met a number of criteria. They had to have at least 150 children enrolled, free space available for renovation, the LPA’s commitment to provide services for children aged 0-2 years, the number of requests from mothers who are on the waiting list and who are ready to become employed in case of the appearance of available vacancies, the number of disadvantaged children (children with disabilities, from socially vulnerable families, Roma,  refugees).

The renovation and equipment of nursery groups in 15 preschool institutions will be carried out within the Improving Education Quality Project.
