The crime rate in Moldova in 2010 rose by 30%. The number of serious crimes increased by 27%. The figures were presented by Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Pantea in a meeting held to analyze the work of the Prosecutor General’s Office in 2010, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Last year, there were recorded 33,402 offenses, up 7,747 compared with 2009. The number of offenses in Drochia district grew by 125%, in Stefan Voda by 73%, while in Rezina by 66%.
The crime rate in Chisinau increased by 37%. The largest number of crimes was committed in Chisinau’s Botanica district.
“The higher crime rate is due to the poor living standards, low incomes, lack of motivation during free time, unemployment, migration, absence of juridical culture,” said Andrei Pantea.
The number of offenses against life and health, in the transport sector and of swindles increased last year, while of economic and drug-related offenses decreased.
