Given that the Chisinau International Airport is nonfunctional and all the passengers are referred to the Iasi International Airport, the Chisinau-Iasi-Chisinau train is now the only functional public transport from and to the Republic of Moldova. In the given situation, there was created a crisis cell to support the travellers, said Iurie Calestru, programs director at the Institute for Development and Expertise of Projects of Moldova (IDEP).
In a news conference at IPN, Iurie Calestru said the working group was constituted by the Employers Association of the Tourism Industry of Moldova, the Institute for Development and Expertise of Projects of Moldova and the state-run enterprise “Moldova’s Railways”. These daily prepare a particular number of food parcels for travellers from Ukraine, for organizations and private individuals. They are yet unable to cope with the very larger number of passengers. If such a pace persists, two routes to Iasi will be needed. Such an opportunity is being considered.
The IDEP programs director called on those who want and can help to come to the Central Train Station in Chisinau in the morning and bring food for Ukrainian refugees. Those who want to travel by train need a valid passport. If one wants to fly from the Iasi Airport, they need to familiarize themselves with the imposed requirements.
Sergiu Manea, president of the Employers Association of the Tourism Industry of Moldova, made a call for solidarity with the Ukrainian people. He urged all the citizens of the country to support the refugees who stop in Moldova or cross it.
The train sets off from Chisinau at 6:40am and reaches Iasi at 11:13am. It returns at 5:40pm and gets to Chisinau at 9:52pm. Routes are operated daily. Tickets can be bought online or from station ticket offices. In Romania, tickets can be purchased directly from train conductors. There is free transport at the train station in Iasi these days. The number of particular flights operated from the Iasi Airport was increased. The suspended flights of Wizz Air were resumed. Comprehensive information can be found on the airport’s website.
