Opposition leaders Vitali Klichko, Arseni Yatseniuk and Oleg Tiagnibok signed an agreement with President Viktor Yanukovych on Friday to try to defuse a deepening political crisis that has left scores of protesters and security officers dead and hundreds wounded in Kiev, the news agency Unian reported on its website, quoted by IPN.
The signing of the agreement was confirmed by the signatures of the foreign ministers of Poland and Germany and of a representative of the French Foreign Ministry. The mediator on behalf of Russia, ombudsman Vladimir Lukin refused to sign the document. The text of the accord wasn’t made public.
At the suggestion of Oleg Tiagnibok, the signatories and those attending the signing ceremony observed a moment’s silence in memory of those who died in the violent clashes of the last few days.
