The Criuleni District Council issued a communiqué, denying the accusations that it caused damage of over 20 million lei to the state, made against it by the Association for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption, describing the statements as ‘pre-electoral lies’. A similar statement was later issued by the head of Criuleni district Vitalie Rotaru. However, members of the Council asked the National Anticorruption Council to examine the public procurement process, IPN reports.
The leader of the Association for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption told a news conference that the windows and doors at a number of education institutions in Criuleni district were replaced and the District Council pledged to pay over 33 million lei for the works, at a time when these works cost not more than 11 million lei.
In the communiqué, the Criuleni District Council says the results achieved by the district’s administration in attracting investments for implementing multiple projects to improve the living standards of people, including to develop infrastructure and to renovate social-cultural and education facilities, dissatisfy those who want to return to power.
The Council also says that these unfounded attacks that are manipulating in character will intensify when the election campaign is closer. It will sue the authors of the defamatory statements and will demand public apologies.
Press officer of the National Anticorruption Center Angela Starinski has told IPN that the application to check the legality of the public tender contests to purchase and install new windows and doors at the schools and to buy two vehicles, held by the Council, was submitted to the Center last week. The case is examined by the Center’s General Investigation Division.
