The Romanian-Polish film “Crulic – Road to Beyond”, which opened the first International Animation Film Festival “Anim'est”, was given ecstatic applause after its premiere in the evening of November 3, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The film made under the direction of Ancai Damian, with Vlad Ivanov as a protagonist, relates the real story of Claudiu Crulic, a Romanian arrested in Poland for an alleged theft. He was held in prison even if the evidence showed that he was not in Poland’s capital at the time the theft was committed. He was abandoned by everyone and died as a result of a hunger strike.
The mixture of drama and humor is highlighted by such animation techniques as drawing, painting, stop-motion and collage, created by a team of artists consisting of Dan Panaitescu, Raluca Popa, Dragos Stefan, Roxana Bentu, Tuliu Oltean, and editor Catalin Cristutiu.
The story of the Romanian citizen Claudiu Crulic caused indignation in the press and among the people. As a result of the tragedy, the then Foreign Minister of Romania Adrian Cioroianu had to tender his resignation, while three doctors in Poland were judged for Claudiu Crulic’s death.
The festival “Anim'est” closes on November 6 with a video & advertising competition and the screening of the film “9”.
