Cultural Center “Grigore Vieru” will be inaugurated in Chisinau

The program of activities to commemorate poet Grigore Vieru during 2010 – 2013 approved by the Government includes the publication of his complete works, concerts, TV and radio programs and other events, Info-Prim Neo reports. A commemorative museum will be opened this year in the bard’s native village Pererata in Briceni district. A bust to the poet will be placed in the yard of the village’s secondary school. There will be made a documentary about Vieru’s life and work. A Cultural Center “Grigore Vieru” will be opened in Chisinau. The poet’s wife Raisa Vieru said the Center will have a library and a music hall, where there will be sung songs composed by the poet. The program also includes the institution of the yearly prize “Grigore Vieru”, which will be offered for remarkable accomplishments in philology and literature, and of the nominal award “Grigore Vieru” for students studying the humanities. The commemoration activates will start with a literary-musical performance dedicated to the poet on February 11. Vieru’s bust on the Classical Writers’ Alley in Chisinau will be unveiled on February 14, when it is the poet’s birthday. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the Government will provide money for carrying out the activities included in the program. A sum of 2.2 million lei will be needed in 2010 for the purpose. Filat also said 2011 will be declared the Year of Grigore Vieru.
