A customs officer of the Sculeni customs post and his accomplice were detained in a corruption case. The customs officer is suspected of having reelected and accepted over €10,000 from a parcel carrier to ensure the unhindered passage of a batch of smuggled goods through the customs post, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, a criminal investigation was launched to examine the actions of the customs officer and of the carrier.
The NAC officers detained the employee of the Sculeni customs post immediately after receiving the amount of over €10,000. The customs officer’s accomplice was also detained during the criminal investigation measures. Following the searches, financial means, mobile phones, a car and the smuggled goods were seized.
