Cypriot murderer arrested in Moldova

Gregoris Xenophontos, who is suspected of murdering media magnate Andy Hadjicostis, was arrested in Moldova. The court issued a warrant for his arrest for a period of 18 days. Meanwhile, the authorities will prepare the documents for extraditing Gregoris Xenophontos to Cyprus, Info-Prim Neo reports. Gregoris Xenophontos was caught at the place of his wife in Balti municipality on June 14 in the afternoon. Chiril Motpan, the head of the Ministry of the Interior’s press office, told the press that the crime was committed in Nicosia on January 11, 2010. On January 14, the murderer returned to Moldova. The Cypriot authorities announced him wanted on January 15. The police in Moldova started to look for the 29-year-old man, who is married to a Moldovan woman. He was arrested in a house in Balti, where he had been hiding after committing the murder. Gregoris Xenophontos is suspected of murder, complicity in murder, bearing of firearm, use of explosive substances without permission and faces life imprisonment under the Cypriot law.
