The Government of the Czech Republic donated personal protective equipment for COVID-19 to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Moldova. The donation to the value of €1.3 million was possible thanks to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism that was activated on February 3, 2021. The consignment consists of 300,000 surgical masks, 100,000 protective gloves and 55 ventilators, stated Martin Čech, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Czech Republic, being quoted by IPN.

Magdalena Mueller-Uri, of the Operations Section at the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, said that almost a year after the start of the pandemic, the COVID-19 situation, including in Moldova, hasn’t improved substantially. “We have a high number of new infections and hospital admissions. Even if we don’t know when this pandemic will end, in the course of this year we managed to learn several new lessons,” noted Magdalena Mueller-Uri.

As part of Team Europe, the EU offered Moldova assistance to the value of €100 million in the fight against COVID-19.
