The dam of the Racovăț-Bădragii Vechi reservoir is damaged. Minister of the Environment Sergiu Lazarencu promises to intervene as soon as possible. The assurance was made following the inspection of the reservoir that supplies water to Edinet and Cupcini towns, IPN reports.
After the Environmental Protection Inspectorate was notified, it was found that the dam is damaged and requires urgent intervention. The Minister of Environment asked the Waterbodies Division and Moldova’s Water Agency to present the technical project for the repair of this dam by the end of September. At the same time, financial sources for carrying out the repair works are to be identified.
The authorities undertook to take measures to reinforce the dam and repair the engineering constructions, specifying that the safety of hydrotechnical constructions is a priority.
During his visit to Edineț, Minister Lazarencu had meetings with local mayors and representatives of municipal and governmental institutions. The interlocutors discussed the need to amend the legislation on the transfer of waterbodies under the ownership of the municipalities on whose territory they are located. The official stressed that these changes are essential to allow a more efficient management of waterbodies and to facilitate the implementation of local projects.
