The prosecutors announced that a criminal case in which five persons are accused of causing damage of about 19.4 million lei to the state in 2010 was sent to court. The five persons were involved in the management of a company that sold building materials, primarily sand and stone. The suspects presented a false business plan for taking out a loan of €1.2 million from Banca de Economii (BEM), IPN reports.

The Proctor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases noted that after the loan was approved, the company transferred the asked sum outside the country so as to give the impression that the money was used for the declared purpose – to purchase a CT scan machine. Later, the culprits asked the money to be transferred to bank accounts in Moldova and used it for personal purposes. By swindle and money laundering, the culprits contributed to the robbing of the state assets in BEM in which the state owned a 56% shareholding in 2010.

One of the five persons was placed under house arrest, another one under judicial control, while three were banned from leaving the place of stay.

Property to the value of over 19 million lei belonging to the culprits was sequestrated so as to restore the damage caused to the state by their illegal activities.
