Three persons were arrested on suspicion that they are involved in an illegal business with ethyl alcohol. According to the General Police Inspectorate, the suspects are investigated for tax evasion by which they caused damage of over 2.6 million lei to the state budget, IPN reports.
The police carried out searches at the head offices of two limited liability companies that made and transported ethyl alcohol and at the homes of the founder and employees of these firms in Hancesti and Ialoveni. Money that wasn’t indicated in the financial accounts was found at the alcohol making factory. A total sum of 2.7 million lei was seized for covering the damage caused to the state budget.
The police also identified a clandestine line for bottling alcoholic beverages, a tank for storing alcohol, about 7 000 liters of alcohol made in domestic conditions for being sold and approximately 2,500 liters of ethyl alcohol without excise stamps.
The driver and the manager of the company face a fine of 60,000 to 100,000 lei or up to six years in jail for tax evasion.
The searches were carried out in connection with the identification of a Volvo truck that transported 30 tonnes of ethyl alcohol without documents of origin on May 26 this year.
