The secretary of state for European Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Daniela Morari said the Republic of Moldova does not face any risk of having the visa-free regime with the EU suspended. This derives from the last two European Commission reports on the issue. The subject was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
According to Daniela Morari, the work done in the field didn’t stop in 2014, when the Republic of Moldova obtained this right, but continues. The EU abolished the visa requirements for Moldova, but a monitoring process exists at different stages.
“The Republic of Moldova shares its experience with other Eastern Partnership countries. At the same time, a lot of standards stipulated in the Schengen catalogue are being implemented in the Republic of Moldova,” stated the secretary of state.
Border Police chief Fredolin Lecari said the statistics concerning the issuing of biometric passports shows upward trends. “It does not matter in what area the citizen of the Republic of Moldova lives. The people are no way discriminated. On the contrary, if we speak about trips, together with the introduction of neutral-design license plates, the citizens from the Transnistrian region can also travel freely and legally in the European Union,” noted Fredolin Lecari.
Bureau for Migration and Asylum head Olga Poalelungi stated a lot was done to implement the institutional reform and obtain the visa-free regime. There were introduced new services and reduced the bureaucratic system, keeping yet the control procedures for documenting the stay of foreigners in the country.
Responding to concerns that Moldova’s visa-free privileges might be stripped away amid uncertainty regarding the geopolitical orientation of the future government, the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said this is a question for the next government. “I have already said that we are open and we want to continue our relations the way they are established. We are waiting for Moldova to fulfill its commitments sooner so that we can continue our support and assistance for Moldova and make changes for the better. This includes visa liberalization because this process has very clearly articulated expectations”, the EU ambassador stated in an interview for IPN.
