Deadline for registering parties as referendum campaign participants expires

The deadline for the submission of applications to the Central Election Commission (CEC) to be registered as participants in the campaign for the September 5 constitutional referendum expires today, August 5, Info-Prim Neo reports. So far, the CEC has registered 20 participants. Today, the Commission is to examine the applications of the United Moldova Party and Moldova’s Patriots Party. All the 30 parties and sociopolitical organizations registered with the Ministry of Justice can take part in the campaign. In order to state their positions, if they are in favor or against the referendum, the parties must lodge applications with the CEC by August 5, inclusive. On September 5, voters will be asked whether they are in favor or against amending the Constitution so that it allows for direct election of the head of state.
