Declaration of Independence will be restored on April 17

The members of the Association “Parlamentul 90” and members of the present Parliament at a festive meeting on April 17 will vote in favor of restoring the text of the Declaration of Independence, the Association's chairman Pantelei Sandulache said Tuesday after a meeting with Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Pantelei Sandulache, the Prosecutor General showed him an official document confirming that the original Declaration of Independence was burned in April 2009. “This allows us to start preparing the legal and technical framework for restoring the Declaration of Independence. The Prosecutor General's Office did not complete the investigation into this case. Those who destroyed the Declaration of Independence have not been identified and not all the circumstances in which the document disappeared have been determined. It is the court that should pronounce on this case,” Pantelei Sandulache said. The chairman of “Parlamentul 90” also said that he will submit the document issued by the Prosecutor General to the Parliament today. The Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu already ordered drafting a bill on the procedure for restoring the Declaration of Independence. According to Pantelei Sandulache, 49 of the 210 signatories of the Declaration of August 27, 1991 have died. The place where 20 of the signatories live is not known, while several former MPs are not in good health and cannot come to the meeting. The Prosecutor General's Office questioned former President Vladimir Voronin and other political leaders over the disappearance of the Declaration of Independence.
