About 1700 delegates to the congress to constitute the unionists’ representative forum People’s Council 2 adopted a roadman concerning Moldova’s union with Romania until 2018 on March 27. The event was timed to coincide with the 98th anniversary of the Union of 1918. The same day, the unionists and supporters of the idea of Moldova’s union with Romania staged a march through Chisinau, IPN reports.

According to a press statement of the unionist organizations, the informing of the whole population of Moldova about the benefits of forming a common state with Romania, launch of the investment project for the Republic of Moldova and the adoption by the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania of the reunion principles are some of the steps defined in the adopted roadmap.

The People’s Council 2 includes Nicolae Dabija, Mircea Druc, Ion Ungureanu, Alexandru Mosanu, Alecu Renita, Mihai Cimpoi, Ion Negrei, Eugen Doga, Arcadie Suceveanu, Nicolae Botgros, Ion Varta, Petru Hadarca, Iurie Colesnic, Gheorghe Mustea, Ninela Caranfil, Ion Iovcev, Octavian Ticu, Sandu Grecu, Vasile Iovu, Petru Bogatu, Silviu Tanase and representatives of each district of the country and of the national minorities.

The unionist organizations said that the union idea is becoming more popular and that about 50,000 people yesterday took part in the largest unionist march ever staged in Chisinau. Delegates from all Moldova’s districts representing the majority population and national minorities formed a huge tricolor out of several thousand balloons in the square of the National Opera House “Maria Biesu” and carried it up to the square of the Railway Terminal.

The participants in the march welcomed the creation of the People’s Council 2 and the adoption of the roadmap on the Union until 2018. The organizers voiced hope that most of the people of Moldova will share their ideal and will vote for the Union in the future.

The events didn’t yet take place smoothly. In the morning, a bomb threat was announced at the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac”, where the event to constitute the People’s Council 2 was held. But the participants refused to leave the hall, being sure that it was a hoax as the organizers checked the place before the event, while the delegates were examined with metal detectors. It turned out to be a hoax indeed. Afterward, a bomb scare was reported at the square of the Railway Terminal, where the unionist march was to arrive. This was a hoax too.

Meanwhile, a part of the politicians who do not support the union idea, including Igor Dodon and Renato Usatyi, expressed their opposition to the unionist activities. Renato Usatyi said a plan of action for destroying the country was actually adopted in Chisinau, while Igor Dodon and supporters laid flowed at the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great to commemorate the soldiers who fought for the country’s freedom.

The Union of the Moldovan Democratic Republic with Romania was voted in 1918 by the then representative legislative body called the People’s Council.
