Depositors born in 1969 and 1970 can apply to have their deposits paid back

The depositors born in 1969 and 1970 will be included additionally in the list of persons who this year will be paid back the deposits they made with Banca de Economii (Savings Bank), Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Minister of Finance Veaceslav Neguta, the number of applications submitted by the depositors born before 1968 inclusive is lower than planned so that the depositors born in 1969 and 1970 are expected to file application by July 1. 34,400 depositors born in 1968 inclusive have been included in the list of depositors that will get their money back at the first stage. They will be paid 31.6 million lei. Another 4.9 million lei will be paid to the depositors who submitted applications, but did not receive the deposits in 2003-2009 for different reasons. A sum of 85 million lei was earmarked in the state budget for 2010 for returning the depositors made with Banca de Economii. At the first stage of the indexation, depositors get 1,000 lei each at a ratio of 1 leu : 1 Soviet ruble. The remaining deposited sum will be indexed at a ratio of 1 : 2.5, but only after all the depositors that had accounts in Sberbank before 1992 have received the first thousand rubles indexed. After the Moldovan leu was introduced on November 29, 1993 and the prices were liberalized, the population’s savings decreased in value over 1,000 times.
