The members of the associations of the Moldovan diaspora will be able to register on the websites of Moldova’s embassies and inform themselves about the developments in the native country and become actively involved in promoting the national values.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Ala Mandacanu, the head of the Moldovan community in Quebec, Canada, said that the Foreign Ministry’s initiative to cooperate with the Moldovans living abroad is absolutely necessary, especially because Article 18 of the Constitution says the citizens of Moldova benefit from state protection in the country and abroad.
”You cannot protect the people and offer them the necessary services if you do not have contact with them. The embassies of Moldova during the last two years have performed many activities aimed at meeting the needs and interests of the Moldovans living abroad. I know from my experience that Moldova’s Embassy for the U.S., Canada and Mexico based in Washington makes effort to provide multiple services for the Moldovans and assistance in emergencies,” said Ala Mandacanu.
According to her, during less than two years Ambassador Igor Munteanu, Consul Nicolae Popa and the entire diplomatic team managed to establish contacts with the organizations of the diaspora in the United States and Canada, to help dozens of people in difficult situations, to organize consular services in towns where Moldova does not have embassies or consulates.
The official websites of the embassies will contain useful information about the legislation of other countries, consular services, regulation of investments/taxes in Moldova, voting abroad, programs to return home, public health, illegal migration and other issues.
This option was designed in partnership with the International Organization for Migration’s Mission to Moldova and the financial support of the European Union within the Supporting the Implementation of the Migration and Development Component of the EU-Moldova Mobility Partnership Project.
