A number of cultural activities generically entitled “Diaspora Town” will take place in the square of the National Opera House “Maria Biesu”” today, August 29, until 8pm. The event was opened by the Ministry of the Interior‘s orchestra “Model” and folk dances ensembles, IPN reports.
In the opening ceremony, Marina Scutaru, consultant of the NEXUS project of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, said the Diaspora Days are staged in Moldova for the first time. They will be held every year at the end of August, both at local and national levels.
“The people are the greatest treasure of a country, no matter whether they are at home or abroad. The continuous care for the country, family and home is the most important thing. We devote these days to all the people from the diaspora. The Bureau for Diaspora Relations, under the aegis of the Government of Moldova, organized an artistic-cultural program for those from the diaspora,” stated Marina Scutaru.
The activities include performances by singing and dancing groups, circus troupes and actors of the Puppet Theater “Licurici”, a parade of giant puppets and the public event “I’m at home” by which the Moldovans who are abroad will be urged to return home.
The Diaspora Days will take place all over Moldova between August 28 and September 27.
