The divorces registered in Moldova will be recognized in Italy and other countries that signed the Convention on the Recognition of Divorces and Legal Separations concluded in The Hague on June 1, 1970. The Convention was ratified by the Moldovan Parliament in its last sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said that Moldova pledged to ratify the Convention during the talks on the Association Agreement with the European Union. The Convention aims to lay down common provisions about the conflicts in the legislation concerning the recognition of divorces and legal separations. The accelerated migration of Moldovans to European states led to the appearance of new families and the rise in the number of divorces in families involving a foreigner. The necessity of a complete and efficient legal framework in the field justified Moldova’s signing of the Convention,” said the minister.
Igor Corman, chairman of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration, said the Convention provides additional legal instruments and guarantees and contributes to the fulfillment of Moldova’s international obligations concerning human rights. According to the MP, among the signatory parties to the Convention are countries where there are many Moldovans, including Italy, Portugal, and the UK.
The bill was passed in two readings.
