The therapist of the Balti Psychoneurological Hospital who raped 16 patients was sentenced to 13 years behind bars. Prosecutor Cristina Ramari, of the Balti Prosecutor’s Office, has told IPN that the doctor is still at large, but was banned from leaving the town. The sentence will take effect in 15 days if it is not challenged in a higher court.
The prosecution asked for 15 years in a closed-type prison for the doctor. The prosecutor has 15 days to examine the motivated part of the decision and to decide whether to appeal the judgment or not. The defense also has 15 days to decide whether to dispute the decision.
The convicted doctor pleads not guilty. The press reported that he declared he didn’t commit these rapes because he is impotent. Cristina Ramari said the hearing was held behind closed doors and such details refer to the private life of the accused and cannot be revealed.
The case was brought into focus in 2013, when a female patient told her relatives that she was raped by the doctor.
