The former doctor of the Psycho-Neurological Hospital of Bălți Stanislav Florea, who was convicted of raping 16 female patients and was sentenced to 13 years in jail on October 25, 2016, is still free, IPN reports, quoting the National Coalition “Life Free from Domestic Violence”.
According to the Coalition, since 2016 until now, more than 14 hearings in the appeals court were adjourned, the examination of the case being delayed by the defendant’s lawyers who invoked different reasons. The hearings were postponed at least two times by the court for the reason that the panel of judges could not be formed. The next hearing was scheduled for the end of this November.
The case was made public in February 2013, when a female patient of the Psycho-Neurological Hospital of Bălți told her relatives that she was raped by the doctor who was treating her. During the investigation, there were identified another 15 women who said they were raped and beaten.
Stanislav Florea got 13 years in jail, but both the prosecution and the defense appealed the sentence. In November 2016, prosecutor Viorel Tureac stated for IPN that the prosecution deemed the sentence too mild and demanded 15 years behind bars for the defendant.
