Dodon says Tofan will not be member of Chisinau Council and Communist faction

The PCRM’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Igor Dodon told a news conference that Anatolie Tofan will be excluded from the faction if the information spread about him proves true, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We will analyze all the presented information and I promise to the residents of Chisinau that if it is confirmed, this person will not be a member of the Municipal Council and of our faction. I make such a commitment before you,” Igor Dodon said, adding that the decision will be announced early next week. In a news conference on June 16, Liberal councilors informed that 23 years ago Anatolie Tofan raped and murdered a 12-year-old girl and buried her in the yard of his house. The court sentenced him to ten years in jail. The same day, the Liberal Party brought a woman, who said she was the victim’s mother, before the press. She confirmed the information made public by the Liberals. Anatolie Tofan refused to make statements for the press, saying the information was untrue and he will sue those who disseminate it.
