MP Igor Dodon, the leader of the Socialist Party, wrote an open letter to Mayor Vasile Panciuc of Balti and the city's Council urging them not to privatize municipal markets, Info-Prim Neo learned from a press statement issued by Igor Dodon.
According to the deputy, on December 12 a group of vendors requested help with annulling the privatization procedure concerning the municipal markets in Balti. “At a rally held by the vendors on December 12, signatures were collected against the sale of the markets. The participants in the rally created an initiative group for this purpose. The protesters suggested that I should head this group”, said Dodon in his letter.
The deputy calls on the Balti authorities to take into consideration the opinion of the people who expressed their disagreement with the privatization measure. “This opinion is not shared only by a few people, because we received already more than 2,600 signatures and their number is rising. We don't want to cause a political confrontation. We just want to help people and contribute to a constructive dialogue between Balti's residents and its authorities. Today as the country is troubled by an economic crisis, we need to keep the existing jobs and consolidate society”, declared Igor Dodon.
Dodon further urges the Balti authorities to cooperate in settling this problem and look for alternative solutions to address budget deficit issues.
