Doina Gherman to take over as Deputy Speaker of Parliament

The chairwomen of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration Doina Gherman will serve as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Speaker Igor Grosu announced after Prime Minister Dorin Recean informed that Mihail Popșoi will be named Minister of Foreign Affairs, IPN reports.

“We have a difficult and complex road ahead of us. So, we need the things started well to continue. We are glad that Mihail Popșoi, our colleague, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, head of the PAS group and the person who took care to promote parliamentary diplomacy abroad, will assume the challenges that lie ahead of us from the position of minister of foreign affairs,” stated Igor Grosu.

According to him, Doina Gherman will serve as the head of the Party of Action and Solidarity’s parliamentary group and as Deputy Speaker of Parliament. “At the first sitting of the current session, which will take place on February 1, I will also announce the restructurings in the parliamentary commissions,” noted the Speaker.

After Nicu Popescu tendered his resignation from the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration on Wednesday morning, Premier Dorin Recean announced that Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popșoi will take over as Minister of Foreign Affairs. The European integration portfolio will be managed by Cristina Gerasimov, who at the end of last year was named secretary of state of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
