Dorin Chirtoaca, the Liberal candidate for Mayor of Chisinau, an early voter by tradition, told reporters after casting his ballot that he voted for Chisinau's growth and for the welfare of its residents, “regardless of their electoral choices and political colors”. “I voted for the future of our children, for the modernization of Chisinau and for the consolidation of the European Integration Alliance, so that we can continue the achievements that started four years ago”, he declared. Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his conviction that he would obtain reelection as Chisinau Mayor. “My intuition tells me that we will continue our work at the City Hall during the next four years, continuing to modernize the municipality of Chisinau, and things will settle down in Moldova”, he said, being thankful for the support shown by the Alliance for European Integration. “The Liberal Party, the Liberal-Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party have worked together during these days and we hope that the residents of the municipality, who were contacted in every single home, will participate in large numbers”. “We need to monitor participation in elections, because it is crucial today. Participation will decide the outcome of this vote. The larger the turnout, the clearer things will become”, stated Dorin Chirtoaca. Further, the Liberal candidate expressed his conviction that there would be a democratic majority in the City Council as well, after the June 5 votes were recounted. “The Council cannot be Communist. It will be democratic”, he declared. In today's run-off in Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca's reelection is contested by Communist Igor Dodon.
