Former mayor general of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoacă remains under judicial control. The court on September 4 extended the preventive measure for two months at the request of prosecutors. The ex-mayor said the decision in his case was taken at the head office of the Democratic Party long ago, before his arrest, IPN reports.
Prosecutor Dumitru Robu told the press that not all the witnesses were questioned and the risk of interference in the proper examination of the case still persists. Therefore, the extension of the preventive measure was necessary. After deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu, there will be questioned the former secretary of the Chisinau Municipal Council Valeriu Didencu and another three witnesses. In another development, the prosecutor said the defense of the former mayor is trying to the delay the trial.
For his part, Dorin Chirtoacă said the extension of the judicial control requested by the prosecutor is a useless action and a document was only copied from older ones, with only the date being modified. This is a formal trial as all the decisions were taken long ago, before his arrest. “They were prepared on Cantemir St or at the head office of the Democratic Party, by Plahotniuc and his company,” he stated.
The ex-mayor noted it wasn’t the case to question such witnesses as Nistor Grozavu, Igor Gamretski and others because these are culprits. The judiciary control within the municipality of Chișinău is an absurdity because the persons who allegedly could be influenced are also in Chișinău. The prosecutor is a liar and he showed this for several times.
Dorin Chirtoacă is investigated in the case of the pay parking lots that was started in May 2017. He has been under judicial control on accusations of passive corruption and acceptance and receipt of gains through intermediaries. Dorin Chirtoacă pleads not guilty.
