Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca announced that he will submit an application to be suspended from his post for the period of the election campaign in the middle of next week as he wants to see first the reactions following the modification of the minibus routes in Chisinau. Afterward, he will join the team of the Liberal Party in the campaign, IPN reports.
Dorin Chirtoaca told a news conference that after the November 30 elections he will initiate discussions on the formation of a new government coalition, with a plan for developing the municipality of Chisinau that will include ten points.
The mayor will propose effectively decentralizing the public administration and creating a fund for developing the capital city. At least 10% of the foreign resources coming to Moldova will be allocated for solving the problems faced by Chisinau, which concentrates one third of the country’s population.
Dorin Chirtoaca will suggest relocating the bus and minibus stations from the city and liquidating the markets, delimiting state property from the property of the capital city and dealing with the issues related to local taxes. Among the proposals are also to attract international shop chains, to rehabilitate the Byk River, to reform the public utilities and to solve the waste-related problem. “I will ask that these points should be included in the government program,” he stated.
The mayor added that he will deal with the problems of Chisinau municipality either as mayor general or from the Cabinet, referring to the fact that the Liberal Party intends to propose him for the post of Prime Minister.
