Regional systems for supplying water from the Nistru and Prut Rivers will be built by 2023. There will be rehabilitated the flood prevention system. The wooded areas will be extended by 10-15%. Such measures are contained in the draft Environment Strategy for 2014 - 2023 that was proposed for public debates, IPN reports.
The strategy aims to implement the institutional environment reform by reorganizing the environment institutions and creating new institutions, Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said in a conference where the document was presented.
Under the draft strategy, the water supply and sewerage services will be improved. Priority will be given to the regional systems for supplying water from the Nistru and Prut, including Soroca – Balti, Vadul lui Voda – Chisinau, Straseni – Calarasi, Prut – Leova – Basarabeasca – Cimislia – Ceadar – Lunga, and Cahul – Taraclia -Vulcanesti.
Special emphasis will be put on the separate collection of medical waste so as to facilitate its recycling. Steps will be taken to inform the population about landslides, floods, droughts and desiccation of humid areas, said Gheorghe Salaru.
The strategy will be implemented at a cost of about 8.6 billion lei.
