The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases sent to court the criminal case started against the truck driver who tried to smuggle over €1.5 million into Moldova on April 18. The man is 36. He is accused of smuggling attempt as the author, IPN reports.
As the offense was committed at the Leușeni customs post, the prosecutors sent the case to the Hâncești Town Court for examination. The beneficiary and organizer of the smuggling scheme is investigated in a separate case.
Besides the amount of money, the driver also didn’t declare other transported goods. The smuggled goods, together with the sequestrated truck, were assessed at €1.65m.
The accused is under arrest. He faces three to ten years in jail and confiscation of the goods for the benefit of the state.
