The Chisinau Appeals Court gave a harsher punishment to a driver who three years ago caused a road accident that resulted in one death. At the start of this year, the Râșcani branch of the Chisinau City Court gave a suspended sentence to him. The prosecutors challenged the sentence and the Appeals Court ordered four years in jail for the 36-year-old offender, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The accident happened at the insertion of Miron Costin St and Moscova Blvd in Chisinau on August 1, 2017. The driver crossed at the yellow color of the traffic lights and, in order to avoid the collision with another car, mounted the curb and struck a 65-year-old woman on the sidewalk. The victim died in the hospital in a week.
The man was also banned from driving during a three-year period and was obliged to pay 131,000 lei damages to the successor of the inured party.
