Writer Dumitru Matcovschi and publicist Valentin Mandacanu were named Citizens of Honor of the municipality of Chisinau. The decision was made by the Chisinau Municipal Council on Thursday, April 30, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dumitru Matcovschi is a people’s writer, titular member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Knight of the Order of the Republic, Knight of the Order "Romanian Star – Commander Degree”, holder of the medals “Mihai Eminescu” and “For Distinction in Work” and a laureate of the International Poetry Festival “Nichita Stanescu”. Valentin Mandacanu is a linguist, translator and publicist, one of the promoters of the Romanian language and an active participant in the National Liberation Movement. The Citizens of Honor of the municipality of Chisinau are offered certain advantages, including a 50% reduction in the payments for public utilities and free trips by public transport. At the same meeting, the Chisinau councilors decided to place plaques commemorating a number of famous Moldovan persons. A commemorative plaque in the name of Mihai Dolgan will be put on the façade of the building located at 71 Stephan the Great Blvd, a plaque dedicated to Nicolae Corlateanu – on the building situated at 159 Stephan the Great Blvd., a plaque dedicated to Vasile Procopsin – on the building of the University Pharmaceutical Center in his name situated at 22 N. Testemiteanu St, a plaque in the name of Steliana Grama – on 55 Hancesti Street, while a plaque in the name of Nicolae Garbalau – on the façade of the building of the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences located at 3 Academiei Street, where the academician lived.
