The people came to the traditional Easter Fair that was opened in front of God's Birth Cathedral in Chisinau on March 30 out of curiosity, say the sellers. According to them, the pound cakes, Easter bread and eggs did not attract many buyers though the prices remained the same as last year, Info-Prim Neo reports. The prices of the pound cakes vary depending on the weight and form as well as the producer. The cheapest pound cake of 100 grams costs 3.2 lei, while the most expensive one of 1 kg - 75 lei. The cakes with chocolate and marmalade sell for 55 lei on average. “The prices also depend on the quality of the flour,” said seller Ecaterina Ursu. The Easter eggs, decorations, candles and towels sell at practically the same prices. A painted egg costs 3 lei, while the decorations for eggs cost between 5 and 10 lei a set. The paint for eggs is sold for 2 lei. Only the prices of candies went up. Seller Elena Dragos said this is because the sugar grew dearer. Decorative baskets are also exhibited for sale at the fair. Designer Lidia Guzun said it takes a lot of time and energy to make these baskets. “A small basket with an egg inside costs 60 lei. The egg is made from plaster and painted. A basket is woven during 3-4 days,” she said, adding that the price of such a basket can amount to 95 lei. Floral designer Iulia Rusu, a member of the Union of Craftspeople of Moldova, said she displayed her works at the Easter Fair for the first time. She exhibited baskets with flowers, decorated eggs, floral arrangements and other decorative objects. They cost between 65 and 200 lei. The fair will be open by April 3, from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M.
