National Bank of Moldova celebrates 33rd anniversary


June 4, 1991 is the founding day of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM). This year’s anniversary comes at a time of transformation for the entire country. The process of joining the European Union is to start and the National Bank is the main pillar in many negotiation chapters, said NBM governor Anca Dragu said. She also delivered a congratulatory message on the occasion of the Bank Worker’s Day, expressing her gratitude to all those who contribute to the stability and development of the sector in Moldova.

First stage of reconstruction works at 400 kV Vulcanesti substation over

The first stage of the reconstruction works at the 400/110/35/10 kV Vulcanesti substation was completed. According to Moldelectrica, the 400 kV primary equipment dating from 1971 was dismantled and replaced. The compressed air circuit breakers were replaced with modern circuit breakers, as well as separators and transformers measuring current and voltage. Also, the scheme of primary connections was adjusted to ensure more reliable operation in the context of synchronization with ENTSO-E.

Moldovans know better how state spends their money, Open Budget Survey


Moldova has significantly improved its position in the world rankings of budget transparency. The budget transparency score of the Republic of Moldova increased from 65 points in 2021 to 81 points in 2023 out of a total of 100. This means that the citizens have greater access to the information necessary to get involved in the decision-making process, as well as to make the Government responsible, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Independent Think Tank Expert-Grup regarding the Open Budget Survey, which included 125 countries in the recent edition.

Dumitru Alaiba: We see signs of revival of the economy

Since November last year, we have seen signs of revival of the economy, said Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dumitru Alaiba. According to the deputy prime minister, after a collapse caused by the war in Ukraine, the economy of the Republic of Moldova has started to gain momentum at the expense of private investments and the increase in industrial production. Dumitru Alaiba said that the decrease in energy charges and the lowering of bank interest rates contribute significantly to the economic recovery.

Moldova expands its geography of cross-border electronic identification

The EU-funded EU4Digital program recently announced that Armenia, Georgia and Moldova had successfully tested connecting to foreign electronic services using their national electronic IDs (eIDs) as part of EU4Digital’s cross-border electronic identification (eID) pilot activities between the Eastern Partner countries.

Gazprom with “flame” shrinking in Moldova and Europe

Price of diesel fuel at minimum values during 11 months

Diesel fuel on Thursday will be sold for a maximum of 20.49 lei/liter, which is by 0.10 lei less than today. The National Agency for Energy Regulation said that the price of diesel fuel is at a new low not only for the current year, but also for a monitoring period of 11 consecutive months.

Park of the Future to be designed and developed in Moldova

In the Republic of Moldova, the design and development of the Park of the Future will soon begin. The guarantees for the IT park have been extended until 2035. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the Moldova Digital Summit.

Premier Recean invites Japanese companies to invest in Moldova

Parliament votes to attract $160 loan from IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will provide Moldova with financial assistance through the Resilience and Sustainability Facility. The loan is equal to 129.3 million Special Drawing Rights, the equivalent of about $160 million. The Parliament gave a first reading to a draft law to attract a foreign state loan from the IMF.

Value of bank deposits grew by 22% in 2023

The value of bank deposits reached 113.396,6 billion lei at the end of last year, up by over 22% compared to the situation at the end of 2022. Most of the deposits were in national currency (63.4%). The information was communicated on Thursday by Nadejda Cornețel, head of the Management Board of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund, in the plenary sitting of Parliament.

Largest ever delegation of Chinese businessmen visits Moldova for Investment Cooperation Forum

About twenty economic agents from China arrived in Chisinau to participate in the China-Moldova Investment Cooperation Forum. China’s Ambassador Yan Wenbin mentioned that Chinese investments in Moldova are limited and it is important to attract as many Chinese companies as possible to the country. The event is organized to stimulate bilateral economic cooperation and familiarize Chinese companies with the Moldovan market. The ambassador expressed confidence that Moldova represents a favorable environment for conducting business.

Moldova goes to Russia with cherries, apples, pears...


Cherries continue to be the subject of transactions between Moldovan and Russian economic agents,  despite the undiplomatic clatters of the foreign affairs department in Moscow, IPN reports, quoting data from Fresh Plaza, an international platform for the sale of agricultural production, which show that Moldovan cherries come to Moscow about two weeks after Turkish cherries.

EU to provide financial support for business development in Moldova

The European Union, through the Confidence Building Measures Program implemented by UNDP, will provide assistance to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises on both banks of the Nistru. The amount of assistance is up to US$20,000 for each of the 20 selected initiatives.
