The Government’s insufficient actions over COVID-19 increase the people’s distrust and cause panic among the people, said leaders of the Ecologist Green Party. In a news conference at IPN, the Greens calls on the authorities to create a crisis management center that would involve specialists and urgently would work out and make public several possible scenarios of the developments.
The party’s president Vitalie Marinuţa said that the Republic of Moldova is not in a crisis situation at present. Only one case of the novel coronavirus has been confirmed so far. But the way in which this case is managed is not professional.
Chairman of the National Council of the Ecologist Green Party Andrei Dumbrăveanu said the Government overlooked the migration of people coming from affected areas and didn’t ensure connection between the governmental bodies: the border police, sanitary services and public health services.
Mihai Magdei, former minister of health, noted the authorities should first of all take care of the medical personnel that are exposed to the risk of infection. They should be supplied with protective clothes and the real number of infected persons should be determined. The Government should make legislative changes so as to additionally remunerate the medical staff that could be involved in the treatment of cases of infection.
Mihai Magdei also said that an efficient alert system and specialists trained in the liquidation of consequences are needed. The Ministry of Health reacted with delay to the first case of infection with the novel coronavirus and should have taken measures when the first case of infection was reported in China.
The members of the Ecologist Green Party warn that the Government should efficiently manage the problems related to the coronavirus. The party reserves the right to seek the resignation of the Government if this irresponsible attitude is not changed.
