The criminal case started against a prosecutor from Edinet, who was arrested two weeks ago, was sent to court. This is charged with passive corruption and faces up to 15 years in jail, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal case was started by the prosecutor general this February after a person informed about the corruptible acts of the prosecutor. The informer was investigated for the theft of a mobile phone and the prosecutor asked 20,000 lei from this for dropping the charges.
By the decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, the 42-year-old prosecutor who has worked in the prosecution service since 1998 was suspended from post.
The prosecutor faces 7 to 15 years in jail and a fine or 400,000 to 500,000 lei as well as ban on holding particular public posts or performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
