The Government’s deputy secretary general Eduard Banaruc said the criminal case against him was started by political order. He was summoned to the National Anticorruption Center, where he received the ordinance of being suspected of abuse of power in a corruption-related case, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Eduard Banaruc said the money found by the Center’s officers in his office is from the wedding and Christening ceremony of his daughter and is intended for the surgery needed by his mother, who is in a very serious condition. She is to undergo an operation abroad.
Eduard Banaruc said the Center’s actions are banal and are aimed at denigrating the institution that he represents. “It is a political order,” he stated.
On February 15, officers of the National Anticorruption Center carried out a number of inspections, including at the Government. In Eduard Banaruc’s office, they found and confiscated US$40,700, €1,580, and 24,540 lei.
