The interminable disputes between the members of the Alliance for European Integration brought Igor Dodon an advantage. The results of the first round of voting in Chisinau were in favor of the Communist candidate because the other people felt disappointed and disgusted by the endless arguments inside the ruling alliance and did not go to vote, political analyst Nicolae Negru stated for Info-Prim Neo. “The election results in the municipality of Chisinau were surprising for some people and predictable for the others as the Alliance for European Integration did not field a common candidate and did not convey a common message to the voters. We should consider that the voters in Chisinau are different from the voters in other settlements. The behavior of the politicians and the way the ruling alliance works had an impact in this case,” said Nicolae Negru. According to the analyst, during the coming two weeks the alliance should mobilize at all levels. “We will see how the Alliance for European Integration behaves and what it does to mobilize the voters. The Communists worked well and obtained practically complete mobilization. The election outcome will depend on the lessons that the ruling alliance will learn,” he stated. Nicolae Negru believes the alliance will correct the mistakes if it has a clear message for the voters in Chisinau so that they see that it remained a functional body. “I think the battle will be stiff. The Communists will mobilize even more. They received support from Moscow and this support will now intensify,” said Nicolae Negru. The analyst considers that Dorin Chirtoaca will have more chances of winning in the second round as the largest part of the votes given to the other candidates, including Valentin Buliga and Mihai Godea, will go to him. With 96% of the votes counted, Igor Dodon earned 48.67% of the poll, while Dorin Chirtoaca - 46.10%.
